What’s Happening?

NTT IndyCar Series driver David Malukas finally opened up on the recent controversy in which former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Daniel Dye mocked Malukas during an online live stream.

Last month, then-Kaulig Racing NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Daniel Dye was suspended by NASCAR and Kaulig Racing after a video from an online live stream made the rounds in and out of the NASCAR community.

In the video, and another from a NASCAR card opening on the platform Whatnot, Dye mocked NTT IndyCar Series driver David Malukas, recounting a story in which he met the Team Penske driver ahead of the Truck and IndyCar Series weekend in St. Petersburg.

Dye, who said he did not know who Malukas was, mimicked a response from the driver in what he would go on to call a “David Malukas gay voice,” going on to make several jokes at the IndyCar driver’s expense.

In the fallout of the situtation, while NASCAR, Kaulig, and Dye have all spoken on the situtation, Malukas had yet to comment, until today.

Friday, ahead of the IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, when asked about the situtation by Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, Malukas said:

“I didn’t see anything, and I have no thoughts on any of that stuff,” Malukas said. “We’re just focused on our situtation here and focused on IndyCar. Seriously, I have not seen any of that stuff, don’t really care for it.”

Ironically, similar to what Dye claimed before their interaction in February, the Team Penske driver said that he “has no idea” who Dye was.

“I have no idea who this guy is. Literally, I don’t know, so it is what it is.” — David Malukas

The Fallout of Dye’s Comments

For his part, Dye’s end of the controversy has already circled the drain and come out the other side.

In the immediate aftermath of the video, NASCAR and Kaulig Racing suspended Dye indefinitely for violating the NASCAR rule book. Dye also posted a lengthy apology on social media.

While the team chose A.J. Allmendinger to drive their No. 10 for the next race, they would find a more permanent option for the following race at Rockingham, as Kaulig says Dye resigned from the team the same day NASCAR reinstated him.

Now veteran Corey LaJoie drives the No. 10, with Dye out of a full-time ride. However, he will make his return to racing tomorrow when he competes in the ARCA Menards Series race at Kansas Speedway.
