What’s Happening?

NASCAR is set to reinstate driver Daniel Dye, following his March 17 suspension, following resurfaced comments made during an online live stream, per a new report; however, the Truck Series driver will not return to Kaulig Racing’s No. 10.

Update 12:00 PM ET: NASCAR has confirmed Dye’s reinstatement, and, in a post to social media, Kaulig Racing said they have “accepted Daniel Dye’s resignation,” framing the departure as a decision made by the driver. In a post of his own, Dye says following his departure, he aims to “realign my focus on my long-term objective of becoming a successful driver at the highest level of stock car racing.”

Two weeks ago, prior to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway, footage from a Whatnot livestream showing NASCAR driver Daniel Dye unboxing NASCAR trading cards went viral.

In this footage, Dye, who raced for Kaulig Racing and Ram in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, recounted a somewhat awkward conversation with NTT IndyCar Series driver David Malukas.

In recounting his interaction with Malukas, Dye mocked the Team Penske driver’s response to a question, eventually using what he called a “David Malukas Gay voice.”

Following the circulation of this footage, and other clips from the live stream in which I continued to use this voice, NASCAR and collar racing suspended Dye indefinitely.

To gain reinstatement, NASCAR required the driver to complete sensitivity training, something that has an unpredictable timeline. But, even when NASCAR determined he had completed his training, rumors swirled that he may not return to Kaulig Racing.

Per a Tuesday morning report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, NASCAR will reinstate Dye ahead of this weekend’s race at Rockingham Speedway; however, he will not return to the No. 10 truck, leaving the full-time ride open for the remainder of the season.

Per Bianchi, NASCAR Cup Series veteran Corey LaJoie, who is scheduled to race the Ram No. 25 this weekend, is a good time to drive. No. 10 for the remainder of the season.

As of press time, neither Kaulig, Ram, nor Dye has confirmed his departure from the team, nor has NASCAR confirmed his reinstatement.
