Danielle Trotta gave scathing remarks on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio about Chase Elliott's actions on Sunday.

What Happened?

Chase Elliott once again found himself in the center of controversy on Sunday after contact with teammate Kyle Larson on the apron coming out of pit road after the final pit stop. Elliott said that no message was being sent, but, Danielle Trotta of Sirius XM NASCAR Radio was not buying it. Trotta gave scathing remarks about Elliott’s move, especially in the context of the year he is having.

You need to know

  • Trotta called the move “Totally unacceptable”, especially given the context of both the season that Elliott has had and the context of the situation. She was particularly pointing out the fact that Elliott showed this sort of displeasure to a teammate. She even went so far as to say that Elliott is “Mentally not right” given his actions of that day and the season as a whole, and she even pointed out that she did not believe that he and Larson did not like each other. To back that up, she pointed out the incident at Watkins Glen in 2022.
  • Elliott has been the source of controversy before this season. The main incident was during the Coca-Cola 600 where he right-hooked Denny Hamlin into the wall, causing Elliott to be suspended. This incident came after Larson made contact with Elliott as the two were exiting pit road. Elliott showed his displeasure by dooring Larson on the apron once they exited pit road.
  • Some fans on social media generally sided with Trotta’s take. They believed that Elliott was wrong in how he went about sending the message that he did. A few felt that this take was a bit harsh, and they felt this bump was not a big deal, even if they felt Elliott was not right in his actions.

This was the incident in question that caused this drama. Elliott did go up to Larson’s car after the race, but it is still unknown what was said.

Bob Pockrass caught up with Elliott following the race, and Pockrass asked Elliott directly what he meant by that door slam. Elliott said that he meant nothing by it.

NBC caught up with Larson after the race, and Larson gave his side of the story. He said that he could understand why Elliott was mad about the incident.

These two do have a history as they got together at Watkins Glen in 2022. Elliott was the dominant car of the day, but Larson ran Elliott wide on a late restart. Larson took home the win, and Elliott fell back to finish in fourth.
