A meme built around Dale Earnhardt and his family has taken on a life of its own, dragging the sport’s fan base into a rabbit hole that began with a single post and snowballed into full-blown lore, and now, merchandise is being sold by Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s own company.
Fans have long known about Dale Earnhardt’s children: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kerry, Taylor, and Kelly Earnhardt Miller.
But the latest surge of chatter added a name that, to almost everyone’s knowledge, does not even exist in real life.
A Reddit user claimed to have spotted another figure alongside Dale Sr. back in the day, floating the idea of a mystery son, “Figgy Earnhardt.” From there, the internet did what it does best, running with the joke, with Memes following in quick succession.
Some users even posted photos of Chad McCumbee playing Eanrahrdt Jr in ESPN’s Dale Earnahrdt biopic, labeling him as “Figgy,” while others spun theories about a “long-lost brother” who entered racing before vanishing from the scene. None of it held water, but that did little to slow the momentum.
After days of the joke gaining traction, Dale Jr. finally addressed the chatter during the latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download, as part of his Ask Jr. Q&A segment, where the live chat was flooded with questions about the mystery name.
He said, “I don’t know how these come out of nowhere. From what I could tell, it literally came from a single tweet or some post on Reddit, that there’s this mythical son of Dad, named Figgy, that existed. I mean, the internet is just having fun. Just being goofy.”

However, instead of pouring cold water on the bit, Dale Jr. chose not to shut it down, noting he did not want to spoil the fun for fans. Instead, his company Dirty Mo Media bent into the skid, turning the joke into merchandise.
Dirty Mo Media recently launched T-shirts in blue, black, and grey, featuring the phrase “I am Figgy Earnhardt” across the front. The post read, “What’s a legend of our sport without their own merch?”
The response under the merch post showed the meme still had legs. One fan joked, “I met Figgy, she’s nice. Word is she will running at Cleetus Crown Vic race this weekend.”
Another asked, “As one of the writers for the Reddit post; do I get one🤔🤔.”
Others took the story further down the road. One user spun a tale: “Did I ever tell you about the time Figgy went hunting? Figgy decides he’s going to hunt down all four of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machette. They all begged for their lives…except Fleagle.”
Another wrote, “No… WE are Figgy Earnhardt.”
There were also jabs at merch priorities in NASCAR, given a recent push for official Chris Buescher merch based around the “Mister Buescher” meme. One fan posted, “@_nascartyler gotta be fuming there is a figgy earnhardt shirt before a MISTEEEERRRRR BUESCHER shirt.”
Another summed up the mood of the NASCAR community since the Reddit post first made waves, “I said it before and I’ll say it again this is the dumbest and funniest thing to happen this month.”
