What’s Happening?
After days of NASCAR fans flooding the internet with memes of a third son of Dale Earnhardt Sr., NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr has finally addressed these jokes about his not-so-real long-lost brother.
Figgy Earnhardt is one of the NASCAR community’s latest creations, dating back to a post on the r/NASCAR subreddit, where a user asked the community if they remembered a third Earnhardt brother named Figgy.
Of course, to our knowledge, there is no such brother, and it’s not clear whether or not the poster actually meant this or was asking an elaborate joke question.
Nonetheless, the post escalated to the center of the NASCAR community’s attention, with fans joking about the fictional brother and his racing pursuits in the early 2000s.
For his part, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a real member of the family and a frequent participant in online NASCAR community discussions, but over the past few days, he has kept to himself about the jokes.
However, it was only a matter of time until he had to speak up, which he did during the filming of his weekly Ask Jr Q&A segment for The Dale Jr Download.
During this episode, with the live chat filled with questions about Figgy, Earnhardt spoke up, seemingly unsure of what to make of the meme.
“I don’t know how these come out of nowhere,” Earnhardt said. “From what I could tell, it literally came from a single tweet or some post on Reddit, that there’s this mythical son of dad, named Figgy, that existed. I mean, the internet is just having fun. Just being goofy.”
Goofy for one, might be the understatement of the century, as fans have adopted this fictional driver as a real-life breathing member of the family, who has fallen out of the spotlight due to his disinterest in racing.
While the lore continues to grow, Earnhardt says he does not want to “ruin” it for the community by pushing it aside or calling the joke dumb.
” I don’t want to ruin this thing for them because, I mean, they’re having a lot of good they having a good time with it.” — Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Who is Figgy Earnhardt?
What’s Happening? It seems like everyone in the NASCAR community is talking about Figgy Earnhardt, the forgotten third son of NASCAR…
The Lore of Figgy Earnhardt
While Figgy may be a figment of fans’ imagination, the more creative members of the community have turned him into an Earnhardt family legend.
For images of Figgy, most are using set photos of driver Chad McCumbee, during filming for the ESPN TV biopic on Dale Earnhardt titled 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story, where McCumbee portrayed Dale Earnhardt Jr.

But, beyond that, the lore is skewed.
Most agree that Figgy drove the No. 81 for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated, mostly during the early 2000s alongside his brothers. In fact, one user, @neverdome_8 on X, “revealed” that Figgy can be found on a demo version of EA Sports NASCAR Thunder 2004 for the PS2.

But there are some mix-ups about Figgy’s presumed time behind the wheel, including fans joking that he is the next driver of Kaulig Racing’s Free Agent Ram No. 25, or that Figgy won five Talladega races in a row, breaking Earnhardt Jr.’s record of four.
Jr. commented on this during the live stream, laughing it off, saying, “Ah, five.”
Regardless of how much fun fans are having with it, and the fact that Figgy has never actually started a NASCAR race, this may turn into one of the core NASCAR memes for years to come.
