- Rumors that LaJoie could race for RFK have circled for some time, with the announcement coming Tuesday afternoon. This sets RFK Racing’s lineup at three chartered entries and one open entry for the 500.
- If the team makes the race, it will mark the first time since the fall 2016 race at Talladega that RFK Racing (once known as Roush-Fenway Racing) will field four cars in a race. This effort also serves as the first time RFK will field their iconic No. 99 since that 2016 race.
- LaJoie has not raced full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2024, having made part-time starts last season with Rick Ware Racing. Despite losing his full-time ride, he has stuck around the sport as a media member, hosting his podcast Stacking Pennies, and as an analyst for NASCAR on Prime Video.
- The 34-year-old also has a driving role as the reserve driver for RFK should the team need a substitute. This job is already in play for LaJoie, who will drive the No. 6 in the preseason Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium for an injured Brad Keselowski.
- Many view LaJoie as a safe bet for a superspeedway race, having scored five career top-tens at Daytona, including an impressive run in last year’s 500, interrupted by late race crashes.
