What’s Happening?
Per NASCAR, Corey Heim, the 2nd place finisher in Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race at Charlotte, has been disqualified from the race for three loose lug nuts. As a result, Heim should be credited with a 36th-place finish, losing 54 of the 55 points earned and both Playoff points from his stage wins. This would drop Heim from 1st to 2nd in the Truck Series standings, 29 points behind points leader, Christian Eckes.
- This is the second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series disqualification this season. Layne Riggs was disqualified from the 2nd race of the season at Atlanta for an issue with the windshield fasteners.
- Heim’s penalty was that three of the 20 lug nuts around the truck were loose after the race. As Bob Pockrass pointed out, 3 or more loose lug nuts is an immediate race disqualification.
- Fans were surprised to see this, especially considering how well Corey Heim ran all night. At least NASCAR did not have to take a win away.
