What’s Happening?

Former NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year Carson Hocevar has signed a major, long-term deal with Spire Motorsports that will keep him with the team into the 2030s, the team announced Thursday.

  • The exact length of this extension is unknown, though the team was clear that it carries the young driver out of the 2020s. Per a press release from the team, the deal “will see the 23-year-old rising star at the controls of the team’s No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 into the next decade.”
  • This move not only locks in a long-term piece for Spire, something they have not had since parting ways with Corey LaJoie in late 2024, but it most importantly will quell any rumors of Hocevar jumping ship for a top team in the future.
  • For example, many NASCAR fans assumed a team like Hendrick Motorsports, which has two drivers on the final year of their contract this season (Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson), could target the talented young driver.
  • Hocevar, a native of Michigan, signed with Spire after a solid 2023 season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Niece Motorsports. Though he had little experience in the Cup Series, the deal turned out to be a solid risk for the team, with Hocevar proving to be a true prospect for their future.
  • This is also one of the first dominoes to fall in what is expected to be a wild 2027 silly season, with more than 20 drivers rumored to be on the final year of their deal. While Hocevar is locked down, the status of his Spire teammates, Daniel Suarez and Michael McDowell, is still unknown.
