What’s Happening?

Corey LaJoie, part-time driver of the No. 01 Rick Ware Racing Ford, has posted a video that sparked fan conversations online about Carl Edwards’s racing future. Carl Edwards retired in 2016, but this week, the former Cup Series driver and now Hall of Famer got behind the wheel of LaJoie’s No. 01 car, apparently “testing” his seat.

Despite confirmation from Edwards himself that he does not envy a future in racing nor getting back on the racetrack, at least not driving a racecar, the post caused fans to theorize about the possibility of his return to racing.

The Hall of Famer had a notable career in NASCAR, with two championship runner-up seasons in 2008 and 2011, collecting 28 wins on the Cup Series alone, with 72 total on the three main national series. Edwards retired at just 36 years old after heartbreakingly losing the 2016 championship due to contact with Joey Logano on a late-race restart.

Winner of the 2015 Southern 500 at the very same racetrack, Carl is set to wave the Green Flag for Sunday’s Goodyear 400, the Darlington throwback race for the Cup Series.

Will Carl Edwards ever drive a Cup Series car again? Let us know what you think!
