What’s Happening?

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is known for having a lot of driver turnover year-to-year, and Brandon Jones is one driver to watch. He’s one of the few drivers about whom we have knowledge about his contract status, and that could put him out of his current ride in 2025.

  • Brandon Jones is in his second full-time season with JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. While he is a five-time winner in the series, he has not found the same success at JRM, and it’s called his future into question.
  • JRM has also reportedly been active in Silly Season. This further raises the question of whether Jones could be on the outs after the 2024 season.
  • Fans are unsure about Jones’ future. Many believe that he could be gone, but others think he will be back in 2025.

A Look at Jones’ Situation

There was speculation that Jones could leave JRM after his first year with the team. However, he said this to Frontstretch‘s Dalton Hopkins in August 2023.

Yeah, we’re back. We have two years here, so I’m looking forward to getting all these bugs ironed out. So, hopefully we can come back next year and attack hard

Did Jones saying, “We have two years here,” mean he signed a two-year contract or had two more years following 2023? It’s unclear based on this context, but if Jones is out of a contract after 2024, his performance could be a tough sell to bring back. Here are his Xfinity Series statistics with JRM, 18 races into his second season.

That’s not a great stat line. Remember that JRM had two Championship 4 drivers in 2023 and continues to be one of the top teams in the series.

However, Jones does bring a lot of funding with him from Menards, one of the most loyal sponsors in NASCAR across all levels. That, combined with his decent track record, with five straight top-10 points finishes in the series prior to joining JRM, means Jones will probably find a ride somewhere, and JRM might keep him on regardless.

If Jones’ contract is up, his spot could be used to fill another seat. Adam Stern reported in June that Trackhouse development driver Connor Zilisch is in discussions with JRM about joining the team in 2025.

If Zilisch joins, does JRM do something no current Xfinity Series team does, such as expand to five cars? Maybe, but Bob Pockrass reports that JRM driver Sam Mayer is a candidate for multiple open Cup Series seats. If Mayer leaves, Zilisch can easily slot in there, but if Mayer stays, does Jones leave?

The situation where Jones leaves could present itself. However, it’s unclear what his exact contract status is, and there may not be a real need for him to leave JRM.
