What was once a rumor that circulated during the Texas race weekend is now a reality. McLeod, who has a best finish of seventh amongst all NASCAR National Series, is an odd yet deserving choice for this ride.
McLeod is a journeyman driver who owns his own NASCAR Cup Series team. Throughout his career, McLeod has made numerous starts across all three NASCAR National Series, mostly for himself and other small teams.
Several NASCAR industry members expressed their excitement at the announcement that he would drive for one of the top organizations in the Truck Series. During his time as a driver and team-owner, McLeod, unlike some other independents, has earned the respect of fans and their peers, with drivers like Denny Hamlin having speaking highly of him in the past.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin posted his praise on X, alongside Front Row Motorsports’ driver Noah Gragson, who posted on X, “Let’s gooo!”
McLeod in the Truck Series
In his NASCAR career, McLeod has made 41 starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, with his most recent happening in 2021. In these starts, McLeod has an average finish of 26.7, finishing no better than 15th at Kansas in 2016.
Fans will get a chance to see what McLeod can do in a top truck next Friday, as Spire’s No. 07 has already been to victory lane this season. This win came with Kyle Larson at Homestead; other drivers like William Byron, Sammy Smith, and Nick Sanchez piloted the truck.
The green flag for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 drops at 8:30 pm ET on FS1.
