What’s Happening?

Kyle Busch made a surprising appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, and he did what Kyle Busch does best. Putting two of the most outspoken people in sports on the same show made for an entertaining few minutes, and here are some of Kyle Busch’s best quotes.

  • Pat McAfee is one of the most outspoken and popular voices in sports television. He has a daily show that streams on YouTube and on ESPN alongside being a voice on ESPN Programming like College Gameday.
  • Kyle Busch is the most accomplished NASCAR driver in the sport today. He has 63 victories and 2 Cup Series Championships.
  • Fans enjoyed seeing Kyle Busch on a big-time sports show outside of typical NASCAR media, and Busch’s comments did not disappoint.

Would Kyle Busch Ever Join F1? 1:48:00

I would love to give F1 a shot, or even IndyCar a shot and run the Indy 500. But the F1 thing is really really tough. There’s a lot of politics per se that has to go into that in order to get over there, but then also you have to have at least a two-year Runway of working through the license application program to prove that you’re worthy enough to drive a Formula 1 car. Those guys can come over here and jump into a NASCAR tomorrow, but not the same going the other way…I love F1. I love those guys. I love watching it. I’m a fan of all forms of Motorsports

Kyle Busch

Even if Kyle Busch would love to give Formula One a shot, it’s incredibly unlikely that it would happen. It’s just the nature of how Formula One operates. While any driver can hop into a NASCAR car should they find a ride, Formula One drivers need to acquire a super license, which can most easily be earned through competing in the F1 feeder series.

This plays into the exclusivity of Formula One compared to NASCAR. It doesn’t seem like Kyle Busch is trying to slight F1 here, but it does show how different joining F1 is compared to NASCAR.

NASCAR vs F1?

NASCAR racing to me is like two bros or four bros, beer cans in their hands smashing it up, partying, having a good time. We’re going to rough some fenders. When you go and do an F1 race, it’s like little dainty, tiny, champagne glasses going ‘dink’, and making sure that you know you keep your fingers up or pinky up when you take a sip.

Kyle Busch

Busch still did poke a little bit of fun at Formula One. He compares racing in F1 to clinking champagne glasses, while NASCAR is like smashing beers with friends.

This is the perfect metaphor for NASCAR and Formula One for multiple reasons. Not only is contact more prevalent in NASCAR, but, Formula One tends to build itself as the more “High Class” motorsport. Neither side is particularly good or bad, but, it’s funny regardless.

Kyle Busch ALMOST Ran in the Indy 500? 1:51:00

Kyle Larson is going to do it [The Indianapolis 500], and he kind of actually snuck in maybe a little bit on getting that ride from me. That’s [McLaren] who I was talking to about doing the deal, but he got there quicker.

Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch confirms that he may have been the one racing in the Indianapolis 500 this year. Busch was having discussions with McLaren as Kyle Larson swooped in and took the ride. Well, Larson ended up with the seat.

Busch has expressed interest in competing in the Indianapolis 500 multiple times before. His brother, Kurt, was the last NASCAR driver to attempt the double in 2014. Will another opportunity come for Kyle later?

SLAMMING the younger Generation 1:54:30

The younger generation is all about crashing before winning, so, you know, they tend to just throw it in the corner alongside of you and just wipe you out more times than not.

Kyle Busch

For some context, McAfee was asking Busch about tempers flaring in NASCAR and whether or not the younger generation is okay with fighting in modern NASCAR. Busch turned it around saying that the younger generation is more concerned with being overly aggressive. This is not an uncommon opinion.

Look at Truck Series races at Phoenix in 2023 and Daytona in 2024. Drivers were heavily criticized for overly aggressive moves. Let’s just say that young drivers need to earn their stripes around Kyle Busch.

Who is Kyle’s NASCAR Mount Rushmore? 2:08:30

it’s tough because Jeff [Gordon] won 4 championships, Jimmie [Johnson] 7, Dale [Earnhardt] 7, those two are easy. Dale, obviously, Jimmy Johnson, obviously…The last two for me are kind of tough. I like David Pearson because he’s the second most winningest driver in the Nascar Cup Series at 105 races, but he never ran really for the championship, so he doesn’t have any of those. Do you go for a guy like Darrell Waltrip who has 84 wins and 3 championships? I’ve run the most races across all three series of NASCAR with Truck, Xfinity, and Cup so I’ve got 230 total NASCAR wins, the most of anybody, so I don’t know, do I put myself on there?

Kyle Busch

First off, Busch gets one critical fact wrong. David Pearson won 3 Championships in his career, but, Busch is correct that Pearson never ran all the races in a given season. Also, why is Richard Petty not even mentioned with 200 wins and 7 Championships?

Busch does consider putting himself up there, which, there is an argument for. He has the most wins across all 3 National Touring Series with 230. He also leads all current drivers in Cup Series wins with 63.

Kyle Busch made some interesting and controversial comments on this appearance. Then again, what else is new?
