WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Austin Dillon and Bubba Wallace were entangled in heavy beating and banging in the last few laps of the Clash. Eventually, Dillon decided he had enough and slammed into the 23 early in the entry of turn 1.
You need to know:
- Each driver had their share of giving and receiving, until the driver of the number 3 decided to end the conflict.
- Austin Dillon finished the race in second, while Bubba Wallace was scored as the last car running, a 22nd finishing position.
- It is surprising that the off track friends raced each other so hard, but rubbin’ as they say, is racin’.

Main Characters
Bubba tweeted, “W3ll that was fun, till it wasn’t.” Wallace also said in a post-race interview, “I gave him a shot, and then we got dumped so… it sucks.”
After the race, Dillon said “I hate it for him because he was really good. We were a little better…”
Bubba added this tweet on Monday following the action:
Postrace, Austin Dillon told The Frontstretch he’s “sure they will [talk]”. Dillon thought he was going to wreck in the inside wall from some of the Wallace-initiated bumps.
In The Stands
On Twitter, Rob Price took exception to Bubba’s reaction under caution while considering the green flag contact fair and equal.
Fan, Davanie Rodriguez, was less than amused by Wallace’s post-race behavior of sulking in his car.
While some found the contact fair and balanced, Julian Spivey believes we haven’t seen the last of contact between these two.
On Your Screen
After the Checkered Flag commented on Bubba’s reaction after the spin:
On Out of The Groove, Eric Estepp mentioned this incident and more, saying “I don’t know what the score is there, but it seems like every wreck was just 4 cars piling into each other.” Listen to his in-person perspective on the contact and the event overall.
In Your Ear
Radney Crawford broke down the Clash, including Bubba and Austin’s individual clash on his podcast, 3 Wide. From Crawford’s perspective, the amount of contact between the 2 was fairly equal, saying he didn’t think anything was a “cheap shot” or out of line. Give it a listen about 6 minutes in.
