NASCAR is no longer looking to move the Xfinity Series exclusively to a streamer, and talks with streamers are taking longer than expected.

What’s Happening?

John Ourand of Sports Business Journal reported on Monday that NASCAR’s discussions with streaming services have hit a snag. In retweets, Adam Stern says that Ourand reports that NASCAR is no longer looking to sell the full Xfinity Series season exclusively to a streaming service, but is rather looking towards a hybrid model. Ourand also reported that NASCAR is now looking at late summer or early fall for their next TV deal to be finalized.

You Need to Know:

  • Ourand further reports that Amazon is still the front-runner to land NASCAR’s streaming deal, which he has reported multiple times. He also said that FOX and NBC continue to be expected to renew their deals with NASCAR. The most likely scenario, according to Ourand, remains a mid-summer type package of Cup races exclusively on streaming.
  • NASCAR moving to streaming has been rumored for some time now. Ourand first reported back in May that NASCAR was beginning negotiations with streaming services after the exclusive negotiation window with NBC and FOX ended.
  • NASCAR moving to streaming remains a controversial topic amongst fans. Some fans like the idea, while others do not. However, regardless of how fans feel, NASCAR to streaming seems bound to happen at some point in some capacity.

Razors Edge wants it to be non-exclusive streaming.

Jimmy Zajac is looking at Peacock and NBC for their streaming service.

Caril Dahlberg is not going to pay for a new streaming service.

Jacob Nelson has a theory for why Xfinity to streaming happened.

Aeropush 5 is probably not too far off base here.

Rob also points out the sponsorship issue.

MacDaddyoo is not thrilled with the idea.

Family Man (Dave) is happy that Xfinity is not streaming exclusively.

DiecastCharv.com wants Peacock and NBC to stream.

On Your Screen

Eric Estepp wants NASCAR either on cable OR streaming, but not both.

NASCAR to streaming is an inevitability seemingly. That does mean fans love the move, or even that they really have to love it. NASCAR is thinking in terms of 10 years down the road rather than one or two, and if they do not jump on streaming now, they will be REALLY behind in 2035 at the next TV deal.
