Kaulig Racing Taps Allmendinger to Fill in For Suspended Driver

What’s Happening?

Veteran A.J. Allmendinger will make his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start in nearly five years this weekend when he fills in for Kaulig Racing’s Daniel Dye following the young driver’s suspension.

  • For Allmendinger, this will be his first start with the team’s new NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series outfit; his Cup Series teammate, Ty Dillon, did so earlier this season. The 44-year-old last started a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Watkins Glen in 2021.
  • Many expected Allmendinger to race in the Truck Series at some point this season, likely in the team’s No. 25 “Free Agent” truck. Though this start is unexpected, most felt that the road course ace would be the best bet for Kaulig given the situation.
  • Allmendinger will drive the No. 10 truck, usually driven by Daniel Dye. Dye, a Truck Series veteran in his own right, is under indefinite suspension from NASCAR for violating Section 4.3.C of the NASCAR Rule Book for comments made during an online live stream.
  • Beyond Darlington, Kaulig has yet to announce plans for who will drive the No. 10 truck. While Allmendinger would be a solid bet at some upcoming venues, limits on Cup Series drivers competing in lower divisions could limit their options.
