Groovy Gauge Score: 55%

Eric saw at Gateway a race that had moments of life but never entirely broke free of the Next Gen’s limitations. He believes the opening half was eventful, with cautions, spins, and strategy creating plenty of passing. Stage one delivered, and even stage two had drama with Larson and Blaney’s run-in.
But he believes that as the long green-flag runs took over, dirty air and Gateway’s flat corners made passing a grind, where getting alongside was one thing, but completing the move was another.
He notes that shifting every lap only helped defenders hold their ground, with Joey Logano giving what Eric called a masterclass in defensive driving.
He emphasized that this wasn’t a bad race, but it wasn’t a barn burner either. The positives stood out, yet the on-track product still left plenty to be desired.
Eric’s Groovy Gauge landed at 55%, calling Gateway average at best. For him, it was the perfect storm of car and track exposing the sport’s current weaknesses, with the spectacle around the race sometimes outshining the racing itself.
