What’s Happening?

Lionel Racing is making major, long-requested changes to production of NASCAR die-cast effective immediately. These changes includes a lower minimum quantity order for 1:64-scale die-cast and overall changes to production quality.

  • According to Lionel Racing, the minimum quantity order for a 1:64-scale die-cast is now 1,500. This decrease will likely result in the production of a broader selection of 1:64-scale die-casts and a decrease in DNP or “Did Not Produce” models, something that collectors have seen more and more in recent years.
  • Furthermore, all 1:64-scale die-casts, those made available for pre-order starting Friday, will feature a die-cast metal chassis and rubber wheels. This is another long-requested change from NASCAR fans and will come at no additional cost to the established 1:64-scale die-cast price. This change will only apply to cars posted for pre-order on June 20 and onward.
  • These production quality changes will only affect the ARC line of 1:64 scale die-cast and not the NASCAR Authentics line available in retail stores. In the past, die-cast collectors and NASCAR fans have often claimed that there is little difference between the two, and this change seemingly fixes that issue.
  • Though these new features come at no additional cost to the consumer, due to tariffs placed on goods imported from China, NASCAR die-cast have seen slight price increases in 2025. For example, the price of a 1:64 scale die-cast rose from $10.99 in February to $11.75 now.
