What’s Happening?

Rick Ware Racing has countersued fellow NASCAR Cup Series team Legacy Motor Club, alleging “several errors and misstatements of fact” in their Apr. 1 lawsuit over a charter sale gone awry.

  • This countersuit concerns an initial lawsuit filed by Legacy Motor Club in April. Initial reports claimed this lawsuit was a dispute about when the charter would be transferred to LMC, but court proceedings revealed this lawsuit stemmed from confusion about which charter RWR was selling to LMC.
  • Legacy Motor Club claims that the agreement was to purchase Charter 27, currently used by RFK Racing’s No. 60 entry, which is owned by RWR and will be returned to them at year’s end. Yet, RWR alleges they thought they were selling LMC Charter 36, which they currently use for their No. 51 entry.
  • RWR claimed in court on Apr. 30 that it is already in agreement with RFK Racing to lease RFK Charter 36 for their No. 60 next season. If RWR sold LMC Charter 27, the team would theoretically not have a charter for the 2026 season.
  • The initial lawsuit filed by LMC in April has been messy at times. LMC claims that RWR is “Strapped for cash and unable to compete at a Cup Series level.” RWR claimed in April that this lawsuit “distorts the actual facts and is a misguided attempt to tarnish our reputation.”
  • We have covered this lawsuit extensively; make sure to catch up on anything you may have missed via the link below.
