What’s Happening?

Rick Ware Racing announced Wednesday afternoon that team owner Rick Ware’s son, Cody, will be the team’s full-time driver in 2025. This announcement, of course, confirms rumors that veteran racer Corey LaJoie is without a Cup Series ride for 2025, as this was the last full-time option on the market.

  • Ware returns to full-time action for the first time since 2022, in part due to an arrest and suspension in 2023. In his career, he has 106 NASCAR Cup Series starts, one top-five and two top-tens. Last season, on a part-time basis, Ware had the team’s best finish of fourth at Daytona. This career-high finish was part of a performance shift seen by the team in 2024.
  • The team made strides for success all season long last year and is making more changes for this season. They will only field one full-time car this year as they are leasing one of their two Charters to RFK Racing. However, they are expected to field the No. 15 on a part-time basis.
  • Last year, RWR entered two full-time rides, the No. 15 and the No. 51. The No. 15 had a rotating door of drivers, including Ware. However, Justin Haley started the year as the team’s lone full-time racer until the team swapped drivers with Spire Motorsports.
  • In return, RWR got Corey LaJoie, who, until recently, was expected to return to the team in 2025. However, earlier this month, reports surfaced that LaJoie was no longer the favorite for the ride. This signing means that LaJoie is officially on the free agent market.
