What’s Happening?

One of NASCAR’s most iconic arcade games of all time also functioned as a safe for contraband for one Austrailian. On Monday, ABC Australia reported that police seized $400,000 in cash, a handgun, and ammunition inside the cabinet of a Daytona USA arcade game owned by a 39-year-old Rebels “bikie” gang member, which is an Australian word for an Outlaw Motorcycle club.

  • ABC Australia reports that the bikie gang member was charged with “three counts of possessing an unlicensed firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm with circumstances of aggravation, one count of receiving money that is the proceeds of an offense, possessing bulletproof clothing, and possessing a prohibited weapon.” This happened alongside pulling over a pickup truck where cops found $4,000 and an extendable baton.
  • There are various types of these clubs all across Australia. While not all of these clubs are considered criminal organizations, the Australian Government considers the Rebels a criminal organization.
  • Daytona USA was a popular Sega arcade racing game released in 1994. While it features no licensed drivers, it does feature Daytona International Speedway, hence the name Daytona USA. The game was also featured on Sega game consoles such as the Sega Saturn and Sega 32X.
