When the Winston Cup Series rolled into the 1993 DieHard 500, there was a recent reminder of how dangerous Talladega could be. Last time out, Rusty Wallace suffered a horrible last-lap wreck. Although he was okay after the crash, it showed the types of wrecks that could happen here. Unfortunately, a much worse crash would be on the horizon for the fall Talladega race. Several cars piled into the first turn, with one car flipping out of the track. Two drivers would be face-to-face with death during the wreck, and miraculously both escaped with their lives.
