What’s Happening?
Jimmie Johnson’s crew is undergoing a massive overhaul. Bob Pockrass reports that Legacy Motor Club has let go of various No. 84 crew members, most notably crew chief Jason Burdett. This comes after NASCAR Rumors and Nostalgia started the rumor on social media by stating that LMC had fired the entirety of the No. 84 crew.
- Jimmie Jonson has struggled mightily in all of his NASCAR starts for Legacy Motor Club. In nine starts combined between 2022 and 2023, he has five DNFs and a best finish of only 28th. He came back to NASCAR after two seasons in IndyCar. Whether Johnson will continue racing in 2025 is uncertain.
- Legacy Motor Club, as a whole, has not had a great 2024 season. Full-time drivers Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek sit 27th and 31st in points with only four top-10s and no top-fives between them. Jones also missed two races after a back injury from a crash at Talladega in April.
- Johnson bought into LMC before the 2023 season. Previously Petty-GMS, Johnson and co-owner Maury Gallagher rebranded the team to Legacy Motor Club and switched manufacturers to Toyota before the 2024 season, becoming a “Tier One” Toyota team.
