What’s Happening?

Christopher Bell accidentally let Joe Gibbs Racing’s 2025 plans slip. While talking to the media on Friday afternoon in New Hampshire, Bell said, “Whenever Chase gets into the car…” before stopping himself. With only three current drivers named Chase, one of which (Elliott) is under contract at Hendrick Motorsports for 2025 and another (Purdy) sitting 14th in Truck Series points, the process of elimination leads us to Chase Briscoe, a free agent to be, the already expected replacement of Martin Truex Jr. at Joe Gibbs Racing.

Bell’s full comments are in the video below, credit to Bob Pockrass.

  • This is not an unexpected move, as Chase Briscoe was immediately linked to JGR following the Martin Truex Jr. announcement. Multiple reports indicated that Briscoe was the favorite to land at JGR, with spotter Freddie Kraft on “Door, Bumper, Clear,” claiming the rumor is that an announcement could come next week.
  • No official announcement has been made, and neither has one been scheduled. However, it is now all but a formality that Briscoe will join one of the sport’s top teams unless something wild happens. Briscoe is now free to explore more options, as SHR announced in the spring that they would shut down at the end of the season. SHR co-owner Gene Haas will reorganize the team as Haas Factory Team, a single-car Cup Series program with two Xfinity Series cars.
  • Fans find it very funny that Bell let this slip. However, the news itself does not come as a surprise to pretty much anyone.
