What Did Matt DiBenedetto Have to Say?

The most recent developments began on Monday evening when DiBenedetto posted on his Instagram story that he would be on PRN at 9 am ET on Tuesday for an “Update”. Well, 9 am came and went on Tuesday with no sign of DiBenedetto. He quickly took his Instagram story with a sort of “I goofed up” smirk on his face to explain what happened.

Man I totally accidentally lied to you guys. The PRN radio show that I did was actually recorded, and it will be this weekend that it is airing. I’ll give updates to follow, so, sorry. I did say 9 am ET that I was going to be on, but, that was our recording. I’ll post the details later

It seems to be an honest mistake from DiBenedetto, and it is an understandable one to make. However, an appearance on PRN shortly could give a further update on his plans. He was not done talking about 2024 yet, however, as he took to social media later for a further update.

I’m really looking at, you know, the next 5, 10 years of my career…We’re looking at how to build the next 10 years of my career, and work on building the partnerships and doing all that really right. It takes money to go racing, so we’re just trying to sinch up some sponsorship and figuring out the details for next year. There’s a couple of opportunities that are out there, but just having to build it a step at a time…Short answer is, we’re working on sponsors.

What Does This Mean?

Not anything new was said by DiBenedetto. He gave an update as well in late October following the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville, and he also said there that he was working on sponsorships. In this most recent update, he gave a timeline for his career, but, it was seemingly understood by everyone that he wanted to continue racing.

Now, why would he continue to give updates without much to say? Well, he described “Passionate individuals” who are continuing to inquire with him about his 2024 plans. It seems he was trying to update them, even if there was not much more to add.

It seems it is going to be a while before he has anything concrete to say regarding 2024. He is a talented enough driver to have some sort of a ride in NASCAR, and, based on his update, it seems that there are teams out there that want him. Some may wonder about how desirable he is given his recent ugly departures from The Wood Brothers and Rackley W.A.R., but, someone seems to want his services.

DiBenedetto has proven himself as a viable driver over his last two seasons with Rackley W.A.R. He took the team to their first win and their first Playoff appearance. The talent is there for him to be racing somewhere, it all comes down to the right opportunity and the right sponsorship.
