Wood Brothers Racing is dismissing fan speculation that it is selling off its operation, following the recent posting of its former race hauler for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Late Wednesday night, a NASCAR fan on the r/NASCAR subreddit discovered that a former hauler belonging to Wood Brothers Racing, NASCAR’s longest operating team, was for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
In a reactionary way, this, of course, led to speculation from some fans online that the team was, shockingly, starting to sell off its single-car operation.

Now, some fans were quick to point out that this was likely not the case. For example, this hauler was still decked out in the team’s 2024 branding, including their 75th anniversary logo.
However, these context clues did little to quell speculation.
Fortunately for fans of the iconic Ford team, the WBR X account, managed by former family members including Jon Wood, laughed off this speculation, posting on X, “Somebody tell Reddit we bought another trailer. If we were shutting down, a trailer on marketplace would not be clue number 1.”
Had the team actually been closing, it would have been unfortunate timing, as their on-track performance with first-year driver Josh Berry would hint that the team is far from exiting the sport.
Their turnaround since aligning closely with Team Penske in 2015 is a stark contrast to their low points from 2007 to 2010, when the team was forced to cut back on racing and looked to be on thin ice.
This season, the team qualified for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs for a second consecutive year, marking the fourth time in team history. Even more impressive, the team ended a 38-year gap by winning a race in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1986/1987 seasons.
