The NASCAR championship has been a point of debate for a long time, long before we had a Chase or Playoffs even. There have been many different points formats that NASCAR has used to crown who is the best in a particular season, some have been popular and more fair while others can easily be called absurd. Today we are going to do a fun thought experiment, the best we can at least, by looking back at all of these championship formats and see who would have won under each. Obviously they would have raced differently between different systems so know now that this is just for fun. Joey Logano is the real 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Champion. - Which NASCAR points format do you think best rewards true championship-worthy performance?
- Do you prefer the drama of the playoffs or the consistency-based Lapford system?\
- How do you think today’s drivers would fare under the grueling, attrition-based systems of the past?
- If the Lapford system returned, who in the current NASCAR field would thrive the most?
