What’s Happening?

MBM Motorsports has its mind set on making a Cup Series return at Circuit of the Americas on March 17th, and their driver is Matt Jaskol. Jaskol posted a picture of the MBM Motorsports No. 66 Cup Series car saying he is looking for sponsorship. Who is MBM Motorsports’ newest driver?

  • MBM Motorsports is owned by former Cup Series driver, Carl Long. They have competed primarily part-time across either the Cup or Xfinity Series since 2016. However, they have not made a Cup Series start since 2022, and they have not made any starts in any NASCAR series so far in 2024.
  • Jaskol is not new to NASCAR, but, it is not his primary racing focus. He is also known by many as a reality TV star.
  • Fans are curious to see MBM Motorsports take to the track once again. While not a team that typically competes for wins, fans want more teams in the sport.

Matt Jaskol’s Racing Career

Matt Jaskol has had an interesting racing career. He rose through the ranks primarily through the Open Wheel path, including getting a scholarship from Red Bull in 2003 as a part of the Red Bull Driver Search program. Since then, he has had feet in the IndyCar camp as well as the NASCAR camp.

He made 5 starts in the Indy NXT Series (then known as Indy Lights) in 2007. This included a 7th-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Freedom 100.

While he never made a start in IndyCar, Jaskol still stayed around the series as a spotter. He’s twice spotted for Marco Andretti on race day, and Jaskol also spotted for Alexander Rossi in 2016 during practice. Rossi went on to win the 2016 Indianapolis 500.

In the NASCAR ranks, Jaskol made some starts at the lower levels of NASCAR. However, it took him until 2021 at age 36 before he made his first National Touring Series start. Between 2021 and 2022, Jaskol made 8 Xfinity Series starts, including 2 top-20s on road courses for MBM Motorsports. However, he is probably most famous for this scary wreck at Dover.

In 2022, Jaskol announced he would compete full-time in the Craftsman Truck Series for G2G Racing. That dream came to an end after only 3 starts plus a DNQ at Daytona. Jaskol released a statement saying that the decision was made by G2G Racing over a disagreement regarding G2G wanting to “Modify” Jaskol’s contract.

Matt Jaskol Off the Track

Matt Jaskol is known in racing circles as one thing, but, in reality TV crowds, he’s seen as someone else. He participated in ABC’s reality TV show, “Castaways”, where he survived 41 days in the wilderness alongside 5 strangers.

He also describes himself on his YouTube channel as a “Professional skydiver” and a “Stunt Driver”. According to his website, Jaskol has stunt driving credits in multiple movies including “Family Plan” (starring Mark Wahlberg), and commercials for companies like Mercedes Benz and MGM Las Vegas.

Matt Jaskol is more than just a race car driver. He is a reality TV star, stunt driver, skydiver, and everything else you can think of who just happens to drive race cars. If he ends up competing in the Cup Series at COTA, what a story to tell.
