ThorSport Racing announced on Thursday that Cam Waters will make his NASCAR debut at Martinsville Speedway on April 5th in the No. 66 car. Who is Ford’s hottest Supercars star?
- Waters becomes the third Supercars driver to join NASCAR since 2023. SVG is running full-time in the Xfinity Series along with 7 Cup Series races after winning teh Chicago Street Race in 2023. Brodie Kostecki made a one-off start at the Indianapolis Road Course in 2023, but, he has yet to make a Cup Series start in 2024.
- Speedcafe reported during the offseason that Waters would be making a Cup Series start for RFK Racing, but, that seemingly did not materialize. Now, he makes his NASCAR debut in the Truck Series.
- Fans are interested to see how Waters does in NASCAR. As opposed to most Supercars drivers who make their NASCAR start on road courses, Waters elects to make his start on an oval.
Who is Cam Waters?
Cam Waters was born on August 3rd, 1994, and he is a veteran in the Australian Repco Supercars Championship. He joined the series full-time starting in 2016. He is a 10-time winner in the series, including the 2023 Adelaide 500. In 2023, Waters finished 6th in the Supercars Championship for Tickford Racing. Walters continues with Tickford for 2024.
According to Supercars.com, Waters began his career in go-karts before moving up to Formula Vee in 2009 and the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2010. He made his supercars debut in the sport’s biggest race, the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, in 2011. Since then, he slowly worked his way up through the ranks
He joined Tickford in 2014, then known as Ford Performance Racing. The two have been together since, and Watersn won his first Supercars race for the team in 2017 at Sandown.
Waters drives a Ford for Tickford Racing in Supercars, and he has been affiliated with Ford since he drove in the Australian Formula Ford Championship in the early 2010s. That is likely where the original RFK Racing connection came from.
