What’s Happening?

With the 2026 NASCAR All-Star Race in the books, fans are already asking what track should host the race next season. But which of these many suggestions best fits the bill to be the 2027 NASCAR All-Star Race host?

Most NASCAR fans, and even some industry members, agree that this year’s NASCAR All-Star Race felt off.

Of course, the All-Star Race is hosted by tracks owned by Speedway Motorsports. But moving the race from a track like North Wilkesboro Speedway to Dover Motor Speedway was questionable from the start.

Entering the weekend, there were even rumors that talks in the garage area were raising questions about the track’s future on the schedule. While it looks like Dover will be back on the schedule next year, the All-Star Race may not have found its new home.

While Sunday’s race was not necessarily bad, most fans agreed it didn’t feel special. It instead felt like the usual showing from Dover, a hot, slick, summer race on the Monster Mile’s concrete surface.

So, given the off vibes for this weekend’s race, what track do fans think could (or at least should) host the All-Star Race in 2027?

Bristol Motor Speedway

One option fans have suggested to keep Dover as a points race, and maintain another tradition, is to host the All-Star Race as the first NASCAR Cup Series race of the year at Bristol.

Even as more and more tracks resort to hosting just one race weekend a season, SMI has maintained Bristol’s two points-paying race status, so why not find a compromise?

Of course, the track was the first to host the race outside of Charlotte Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2020, but it has not done so since then.

Given the state of NASCAR Cup Series short track racing in the Next Gen era, fans often suggest that the track should have one race weekend, specifically the fall night race.

If SMI wanted to maintain two races at the track and give Dover back its points race, fans have suggested swapping the Bristol spring race for the All-Star Race.

Charlotte Motor Speedway

If you have ever taken part in an online discussion about the future of the All-Star Race, one conversation that always comes up is returning the event to Charlotte.

Starting in 1985, and from 1987 to 2019 afterward, the race was held at CMS the weekend before the Coca-Cola 600. The race was built as a home event, and a specialty race put on for the sport’s most loyal fans.

Since leaving CMS, fans have agreed that the race has felt off at other venues, including Bristol and Texas Motor Speedway. While North Wilkesboro felt right, it failed to have the bright lights feel of a night race in Concord.

If NASCAR and SMI moved the race back to Charlotte, one major problem would be the future of Dover, as NASCAR would likely not want CMS to lose a points race given its great racing product, leaving Dover the potential odd man out.

EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway)

One option fans online continue to float is the idea of taking away one of Atlanta Motor Speedway’s dates and giving it to Dover in exchange for the All-Star Race.

Despite early hesitation from fans, Atlanta’s 2022 reconfiguration has been a hit.

While the drafting at tracks like Daytona and Talladega has been lackluster at best, EchoPark’s on-track product has resulted in repeated memorable moments in just the past few seasons.

So, why not let the best the Cup Series has to offer go out and race for $1 million at the track? EchoPark has both great racing and one major feature missing from Dover: track lights.

Sometimes, NASCAR fans do not think a lot of their suggestions through, but moving the All-Star Race to Atlanta seems to solve many of the complaints from this year’s race.

Dover Motor Speedway

Let’s face it, this weekend wasn’t necessarily bad. There were glaring issues, but, for the most part, the event was far from the lows that the All-Star Race saw at Texas Motor Speedway in 2021 and 2022.

So, why shouldn’t NASCAR and SMI save themselves the scheduling headache and just let the series head back to Dover for the 2027 All-Star Race?

Still, there is the issue of longevity, as if the event has the same feeling (and format) as it did this season, the race would see a major decline in return on the gains it made during its time at Wilkesboro.
