What’s Happening?
Former NASCAR driver Matt Tifft was involved in a post-race altercation Saturday after the Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway.
What We Know
Tifft was racing the the no. 57 super late model for Anthony Campi Racing Saturday in the ASA Tour. During the event he was wrecked on lap 47 by the no. 23 of Billy VanMeter. After a DNQ for Tifft and a 7th place finish for VanMeter, Tifft attempted to approach VanMeter to discuss the on-track incident.
Tifft was swarmed by team members of VanMeter and put into a chokehold while being taken to the ground. While on the ground, Tifft was working to defuse the situation when VanMeter team member Bryan Glaze delivered a kick to the right side of Matt Tifft’s head.
The Fallout
Once the dust settled Tifft walked away from the incident and made a statement on X about the altercation.
Had a great race until getting wrecked by someone who went on to take out 3 more cars. Can’t stand people with no respect for others’ equipment. Always a good sign when several teams thank you after confronting them. Hopefully the last time getting ‘VanMetered.’
The sanctioning body of the ASA Tour released a penalty report with penalties for Matt Tifft, Billy VanMeter, and Bryan Glaze. The steepest going to Glaze who received and indefinite suspension from all sanctioned events.

This altercation comes on the heels of a prior altercation with Glaze’s involvement in a fight in the Pro JEGS Tour race last month at Owosso Speedway. Since the incident VanMeter has released a statement that Glaze will no longer have involvement with the no. 27 team.
As the summer is coming to an end, the action is continuing to heat up. What will we see next?
