What’s Happening?

If you’re looking for a beautiful camping opportunity while enjoying the sights and sounds of racing, then Road America may be the place to take in a race. Here is everything to expect from NASCAR’s official camping notebook.

  • Road America opened in 1955 in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The natural beauty of rural Wisconsin surrounds the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course. Over its lifespan, the track has hosted multiple racing series, including Indy Car and IMSA. It first hosted NASCAR in 1956, with Tim Flock, and welcomed the NASCAR Cup Series back in 2021 and 2022.
  • Historically, Road America hosted the NASCAR Xfinity Series from 2010 to 2023 and the Cup Series from 2021 to 2022. However, in 2023, with the addition of the Chicago Street Course, the Cup Series left Road America, and subsequently, the Xfinity Series would not feature the circuit on its schedule in 2024. Unfortunately, there are no current plans for NASCAR’s national series to return to the track.

Amenities & Highlights

Road America features many amenities for those camping at the track for a race weekend.

With a track as large as Road America, it offers a golf cart rental option so campers can easily travel throughout it. The track also has weather-dependent amenities, such as the availability to purchase ice on a hot day, firewood on a cold Wisconsin night or even just for a fire for friends and family to gather around. The track also features 11 on-site concession stands throughout the facility.

Campsites offer campsite liaisons for campers, and complimentary to this, the track also provides full-time security for camper safety. The track also features quiet hours at night, giving campers a break from the sound of roaring engines that echo off the trees surrounding the road course.

  • Permanent restrooms with showers
  • Security 24×7
  • Golf Cart Rentals
  • Ice available for purchase
  • Firewood available for purchase
  • Dedicated camp host liaisons available during your stay
  • 11 Concession stands open during public events

Campground Details

The massive facility at Road America features 1,600 lots sized 20×40. The lots allow for either RVs, campers or tents to be set up. The campgrounds have both electric and non-electric hookup lots available. However, the track does not provide water or sewer hookups.

Despite the lack of water and sewer hookups, restrooms and showers are available for campers to use at will. Entering the campgrounds requires more than just a race ticket, with attendees needing a wristband and the purchase of a campsite.
