What’s Happening?
After a wet and soggy Fast Friday got rained out, we’re all clear skies and under the lights tonight at always thrilling Kansas Speedway. The ARCA Menards Series took to the track earlier today, and the NASCAR Cup Series had its practice and qualifying sessions this afternoon. So, the track is at least somewhat rubbered up as the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series take center stage tonight for the Kansas Lottery 300.
With qualifying being rained out, that means the starting lineup was decided by the NASCAR metric system. Heading into tonight’s showdown, Justin Allgaier leads the points convincingly over Sheldon Creed. But it’s his JGR teammate, Carson Kvapil, who starts on the pole alongside William Byron in the No. 88 HendrickCars.com Chevy. Here’s what you need to keep an eye on in tonight’s race under the lights at Kansas Speedway.
Fast Notes:
- After qualifying was rained out, NASCAR reverted to the metric to determine the starting lineup. Since Connor Zilisch won last week’s race at Bristol in the No. 1 car, Carson Kvapil, who returns to that ride after a week’s hiatus in the No. 9, rolls off from the pole. His teammates, William Byron (No. 88) and Justin Allgaier (No. 7) start right behind him.
- A lot of eyes on are Brent Crews heading into today’s race. The last two weeks, the driver of the No. 19 JGR Toyota showed race-winning speed. He easily could have gone two wins in a row in the last two weeks. He’s rolling off in the 5th position. Keep an eye out for that youngster. Hey may just be the next big thing.
- Corey Day is another young driver who has shown a lot of speed recently. He’s led a lot of laps in that HMS No. 17 Chevy and has been a consistent top 5 contender to start the year. Maybe he has what it takes to get the job done.
- The stage breakdown for tonight’s race is 45-45-110. Teams were given 5 sets of Goodyear Eagles and the fuel range is expected to be between 60 and 64 laps. Due to the weather yesterday, there will be a competition caution thrown at Lap 20.
- Coverage for the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway begins on The CW at 7 PM ET.
