What’s Happening?
Weather has chased NASCAR’s National Series throughout the Playoffs but has yet to catch up with NASCAR. Will NASCAR be able to outrace bad weather this weekend at Talladega?
- Talladega Superspeedway is one of NASCAR’s most famous tracks, and its popularity has reached beyond NASCAR and into the public. The 2.5-mile track is one of two superspeedways on NASCAR’s schedule. However, of the two, it may be NASCAR’s most dangerous.
- The NASCAR Cup Series first raced at Talladega in 1969. The series races twice yearly at Talladega, with the race holding the place of shaking up NASCAR’s playoff picture quite a bit.
- The NASCAR Xfinity Series first raced at Talladega in 1992. Racing twice yearly at Talladega is a new feature for the Xfinity Series, with the first double-race weekends taking place in 2020.
- The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series first raced at Talladega in 2006. Although the Truck Series took some time to get there, its fall race date is known for its long-running streak of upset, underdog, and part-time winners.

Talladega Weather History
In the past few seasons, Talladega has avoided any major weather-related delays to its race date. However, there was a notable weather delay in the Fall of 2021, when, after a long delay, NASCAR called the race, with Bubba Wallace and 23XI Racing earning their first win.
A delay would likely occur in the event of bad weather in the Talladega area. If the weather is bad enough, NASCAR could push the race until Monday, as Talladega has no lights, and NASCAR does not utilize its wet weather tires on non-short tracks.
