What’s Happening?
NASCAR’s West Coast swing is coming to an end, but before teams head back East, one last race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway lies in the way. So, whether you are going to be at the track or home, what does the forecast look like for the race weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada?
- Las Vegas Motor Speedway opened in 1996 as NASCAR’s most western intermediate or 1.5-mile speedway. Though it is a part of the Speedway Motorsports track lineup, LVMS has a somewhat unique shape compared to other intermediates in its track roster.
- The track hosted its first races in 1996, with the IndyCar Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series hosting events. The track would not host its first NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race until 1997, and its first Cup Series race until 1998.
- With its location in the desert of Nevada, LVMS has a history of decent weather for race weekends. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it isn’t immune to delays and bad weather.
