What’s Happening?

NASCAR’s three National Series return to the East Coast this weekend. a stretch of races at some of its most historic tracks that kicks off at Darlington Raceway. So, whether you are going to be at the track or home, what does the forecast look like for the race weekend in Darlington, South Carolina?

  • Darlington Raceway first opened as NASCAR’s original “superspeedway” in 1950. The track, sitting at 1.366 miles long, is known for its unique shapes on the NASCAR schedule, reflecting that of an egg, as opposed to a traditional oval.
  • The track in South Carolina hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race in 1950 and has floated between one and two races a year throughout its history. In 1982, the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series first raced at the track, joined by the Craftsman Truck Series nearly two decades later in 2001.
  • Like any track that is nearing 80 years old, Darlington has had its fair share of bad-weather race weekends, with the 2020s seeing a few notable examples.
