What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series driver Ty Gibbs walked away from a violent flip during Thursday night’s High Limit Series event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

  • The crash, which happened during Thursday night’s first Heat Race, in which Gibbs started first, with hopes of qualifying for the A-Main that evening. During this race, Gibbs seemingly drove off the right rear tire of Corey Day’s No. 14 entry, launching the No. 84 into the dirt and the catchfence.
  • Following the crash, Gibbs was short of words, saying that he thought Day got loose, which created a chain reaction leading to the crash. The 23-year-old also confirmed that, as of last evening, he intends to enter tonight’s High Limit event at the LVMS Dirt Track.
  • This crash is similar to one that Gibbs suffered at the LVMS Dirt Track last season. That crash, a solo flip after getting loose in turn three, ended what was set to be his series debut in the High Limit Series.
  • Despite the flip, fans were treated to an exciting A-Main in which Hendrick Motorsports teammates Corey Day and Kyle Larson dueled for several laps, with Larson narrowly walking away with the win. Tonight’s on-track activities are scheduled to kick off with Hot Laps at 5:45 PM PST.
