No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry XSE News and Notes

  • SECOND SEASON: Ty Gibbs is competing in his second full NASCAR Cup Series season driving the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry XSE for Joe Gibbs Racing. He has nine top-10 and five top-five finishes and 14th in points 67 points ahead of 17th place Bubba Wallace. The top-16 advance to the Playoffs.
  • LAPS LED: He has led 349 laps this season, which is the most he has led in any Cup season.
  • FIRST: In May at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Gibbs scored his first career pole position in the Cup Series. He second pole position was won on July 13 at Pocono Raceway.
  • SECOND: Gibbs finished a career-high second on May 12 at Darlington Raceway. He started fourth, led 34 laps and finished 1.214 seconds behind winner Brad Keselowski.
  • THIRD: Gibbs finished third two weeks ago at the Chicago Street Course. He led 17 laps. 
  • AVERAGE START/FINISH: Ty Gibbs average start is 10.3 which is fourth in NASCAR and his average finish is 14.7 which is 12th.
  • INDIANAPOLIS: Gibbs has never started a race on the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He tested on the oval in the fall of 2023.
  • TITLES: Gibbs has won the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year, 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion, 2021 ARCA Menards Series Championship and 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Rookie of the Year.
  • ATOP THE PIT BOX: Veteran crew chief Chris Gayle will oversee the No. 54 team’s efforts in the 2024 season. Gayle, who is from Little Rock, Arkansas, has led his drivers to two NASCAR Cup Series victories and 37 Xfinity Series wins. He was also the crew chief of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship with Gibbs. The list of drivers Gayle has visited victory lane with includes Gibbs, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Sam Hornish Jr., Erik Jones, Elliott Sadler, Christopher Bell and John Hunter Nemechek.
  • RACE INFO: The Brickyard 400 starts at 2:30 pm EDT on Sunday, July 21 and will be broadcast on NBC, SiriusXM Channel 90 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.

“I’ve never driven in a race on the oval at Indianapolis, but we did test there last fall. Obviously, there is a is a ton of history there and I’m excited to race the oval. Should be a cool event and it’s the last one before the two-week break. Hopefully we can get a win in our Monster Energy Toyota Camry XSE.”
