What’s Happening?

NASCAR veteran Ty Dillon will be out of his Craftsman Truck Series ride for the rest of the season. On Monday afternoon, Rackley W.A.R. announced via a press release that Dawson Sutton will finish out the season in Dillon’s No. 25 Truck.

  • Ty Dillon began racing in the NASCAR National Series in 2011. However, the former ARCA champion first raced full-time in the Truck Series in 2012, winning three races in two seasons. Since his full-time Cup Series ride closed after 2020, Dillon’s career has been up and down. This season with Rackley W.A.R., Dillon has two top-tens in 18 races.
  • Rackley W.A.R. first fielded Trucks in NASCAR in 2021, and the team won its first race in 2022 with Cup Series veteran Matt DiBenedetto. Dillon is not the first driver to have their season with the team cut short, as the team released DiBenedetto with three races to go last season.
  • Dawson Sutton is the son of team CEO and Rackley Roofing owner Curtis Sutton. Dawson is a standout Late Model racer who made his Truck Series debut earlier this year at North Wilkesboro Speedway, followed by a race at Nashville Superspeedway. Sutton finished 28th and 18th in those two entries.
  • We listed Dawson Sutton as one of the future names to watch in the NASCAR Truck Series. The team is allowing Dillon to finish out the season as a mentor for the young driver. However, things are looking up for Dillon. The 32-year-old is a top candidate for Kaulig Racing’s No. 31 in the NASCAR Cup Series.

In the team’s press release, Rackley W.A.R. co-owner Willie Allen said about Dillon:

“We are super-thankful for the job Ty has done for us this year as our primary driver. We appreciate his willingness to take on an additional role and help Dawson grow and develop as a young driver for the remainder of the NASCAR Truck Series season. We look forward to Ty’s continued valuable input and support in the ongoing development of our race program.” — Willie Allen, co-owner Rackley W.A.R.
