What’s Happening?
Continuing the trend of Stage 1 with relatively clean racing up until the closing laps, Stage 2 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race ended with a crash heading into the tri-oval. This time it was a two-truck incident and it involved one of NASCAR biggest names, three-time Cup Series champion Tony Stewart. Stewart was racing his No. 25 RAM truck on the outside when Jake Garcia in the No. 98 got loose in the middle. Garcia overcorrected and lost control, pinning the aged champion into the outside wall.

- Tony Stewart turned some heads in qualifying, putting his new No. 25 RAM truck in the 15th position, an impressive feat, considering he hasn’t strapped into a NASCAR vehicle of any kind in nine years and a truck in particular in twenty.
- Stewart was playing it safe in the early stages of this race, hanging around the back of the pack after making some major adjustments on pit road. Prior to the incident, he came over the radio to tell his team that he was having “more fun” than in practice on Thursday.
- As of this writing, this is the only start Stewart has planned in the truck. It’s an unceremonious end to what was largely considered a shock return amongst his legion of fans. He retired from the race and was checked and released from the in-field care center.
