What’s Happening?
Following post-race inspection following Thursday night’s 150-mile duel races, NASCAR has disallowed Anthony Alfredo and Beard Motorsports’ finishing position, kicking the driver and team from the field for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

- Per NASCAR, Alfredo’s penalty was the result of two hoses: the transaxle cooling hose and a driver cooling hose. The transaxle cooling hose was found to be loose after the race, and the driver’s cooling hose was improperly attached.
- The No. 62 finished 18th in Thursday’s second duel race, the best of the three open cars in that race. With his disallowance, the driver who will take his spot in Sunday’s race is veteran B.J. McLeod, who will make his first Daytona 500 since 2023, and the sixth of his career.
- This ruling is heartbreaking for Alfredo, who was set to enter his third career 500, and Beard, who was set to make their seventh. Prior to NASCAR’s announcement, the combo of driver and team looked like the emotional favorite for Sunday, with Alfredo tearing up during a pit road interview.
- The No. 62 was one of eight total open entries attempting to make the 500, and will go home alongside the No. 36 of Front Row Motorsports, the No. 44 of The NY Racing Team, and the No. 99 of RFK Racing. Making the race from this lot is McLeod’s No. 78, JR Motorsports’ No. 40, Garage 66’s No. 66, and 23XI’s No. 67.
