Top Cup Series Chase Contender Adds Another Truck Start to 2027 Slate

What’s Happening?

Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen is returning for his fourth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of 2027 this weekend with Spire Motorsports.

• van Gisbergen will drive the team’s No. 7 as the final replacement for Kyle Busch’s eight-race slate that was set before his abrupt passing in May. He joins Busch, Michael McDowell, Connor Mosack, Sammy Smith, Corey Day, Rajah Caruth, and Chase Elliott in driving the truck this season.
• Previously, van Gisbergen made a solo start with Niece Motorsports in their No. 4 and two starts in Spire’s No. 71. In his latest start at North Wilkesboro, van Gisbergen impressed, bringing the truck home in third.
• van Gisbergen is currently in hot competition for a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Chase. After this past weekend’s race in Iowa, the New Zealand native sits 15th in points, 47 points to the good.
• While fans will likely have a close eye on SVG after his run at Wilkesboro, he is far from the star of the show for Spire this weekend. That honor falls to 16-year-old prospect Tristan McKee, who will make his series debut in their No. 77 truck.
• So far this season, as part of a combined effort of multiple drivers in two full-time trucks and one part-time truck, Spire has pieced together just three wins. Two of those wins came from Busch, with Hocevar scoring the lone win for the No. 77.
