What’s Happening?

NASCAR is once again moving its Fourth of July race weekend, though it will remain in the Midwest, with Iowa Speedway moving up the schedule to take over one of the sport’s most important holidays.

  • Iowa joined the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2024 as a replacement for Auto Club Speedway. Over the years, the track has seen sell-out crowds and continued support from fans outside the region.
  • Now the track is tasked with carrying what is historically one of the sport’s most important race dates. Much like this year, the weekend will once again be a tripleheader with the ARCA Menards Series, NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Cup Series on track from July 2 through July 4.
  • Historically, NASCAR’s Fourth of July weekend was held at Daytona International Speedway before it shifted during the 2020 season. The race then moved to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, then Road America, then the Chicago Street Course, and in 2026, Chicagoland Speedway.
  • Though fans asked for a new July 4 race, Iowa seemed like an afterthought in the discussion. For the most part, fan discussions centered around tracks like Daytona or EchoPark Speedway as ideal landing spots for the event.
