What’s Happening?

Several IndyCar drivers have taken a swing at NASCAR before, including A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Danica Patrick. The latest to throw his hat in the ring is 2025 IndyCar Rookie of the Year Louis Foster, who has admitted that he would not think twice if a door opens for him to race in NASCAR.

Speaking on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour show, Foster laid his cards on the table, narrating how much he loves NASCAR and how he can’t get over the sport while racing on SIM. “I love NASCAR. When I race in the SIM, all I drive is NASCAR, honestly. I just drive NASCAR, to be honest with you. I don’t do anything else because I find NASCAR so much fun. Like Talladega in a NASCAR.”

When Harvick pressed him on whether he would take a shot if given the chance, Foster did not blink. “100%, yeah,” he said, indicating that the open-wheel racer is ready to trade lanes if the call comes.

However, Foster, who has built his racing skills on road courses, believes that is where he could hold his ground. “I mean, on an oval, these boys would probably beat me. On a road course, I’d like to think I could hold my own at least a bit more,” he said, drawing a line between the two racing worlds.

Harvick, for his part, pointed to the current car as a bridge between disciplines. “And in today’s car, as we’ve seen with SVG, it lends its hand to more sports car, open-wheel guys being able to come in and do that,” he noted.

But for now, Foster remains tied to IndyCar, locked into a multi-year deal with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Last season, the No. 45 Dallara DW12 with a Honda engine finished 23rd in the standings with 213 points. And now, three races into the current campaign, he sits 19th in the table, sharing the garage with Graham Rahal and fellow rookie Mick Schumacher.

While Foster’s interest is on record, whether it turns into seat time on a NASCAR grid remains to be seen. But the door, at least from Foster’s side, is wide open.
