NASCAR diecast collecting is a practice that many of us fans have been doing for the entirety of out time as fans.  Getting a piece of timeless memorabilia from out favorite drivers the same way a stick and ball sport would get their favorite player/team jersey.  Yet in the last decade or so things have become more difficult for us as the prices have increased and the quality has not kept pace.  If that was not difficult enough there was also the news that the most recent tariffs that the United States has put in place are directly responsible for yet another increase in diecast costs.  We look at this and the direction that NASCAR and partner Lionel have gone in this market.  This is the state of NASCAR diecasts.

  • With Lionel Racing increasing prices to nearly $100 per standard diecast, is there any real value left for the everyday fan trying to collect?
  • How much has Lionel’s exclusivity deal with NASCAR contributed to the lack of competition, innovation, and improvement in the diecast market?
  • If producing diecasts in America raised quality but also the price, would collectors be willing to pay even more just to get what they once had?

If this trend continues—higher prices, lower quality, and more cancellations—could we be looking at the slow death of diecast collecting altogether?
