The Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the most storied racetracks in all of motorsports.  With the beating and banging history that we have had at the track it is not a surprise at all that NASCAR fans flock to this track in some of the biggest crowds of any sporting venue in the world.  While the track and sport had changed over time the track did have a rough patch that culminated with the 2012 Food City 500.  The spring race in 2012 was the antithesis of what people expected from the track, and it charted the course for the track unknowingly for the next decade and change.  This is the race that changed modern Bristol forever.

  • How do you feel about the switch to progressive banking — did it ruin the magic or add a new layer of strategy?
  • Is the Bristol Night Race still the crown jewel it used to be, or has it lost a bit of its luster in recent years?
  • If you were in charge, would you make any major changes to the surface again, or leave it exactly how it is?

What’s the first Bristol race you remember watching, and what stuck with you the most about it? Let The Iceberg know all of your thoughts and questions in the comment section.
