Everyone loves a good underdog story, and NASCAR is a sport where underdogs can often find their day in the spotlight. Today, The Daily Downforce tells us the origin of NASCAR‘s greatest underdog, Ross Chastain.

  • It’s no secret how expensive racing is. So this leaves the majority of opportunities to the people with the most funds, and being a seventh-generation watermelon farmer doesn’t come with much money. Ross has seen this meant that he had to run many of his races growing up on old tires and find any possible way to save money. How much does a financial standing mean to you when thinking about an underdog?
  • Ross Chastain was able to get a top 10 in his very first Truck Series race, but he was unfortunately let go by Brad Keselowski because Brad didn’t think Chastain had the potential to be a Cup Series driver. Do you think these harsh comments from a future Hall of Fame driver are what made Ross Chastain the aggressive driver he is today?
  • One of the most defining races of Ross Chastain’s career was his first opportunity in decent equipment when he was driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. He was racing for the win after dominating the entire weekend and ended up wrecking Kevin Harvick and himself before the end of the race. Do you think this was a positive or negative moment for Ross Chastain?

What’s your favorite Ross Chastain moment? Do you think he will ever be champion? Let The Daily Downforce know all of your thoughts and questions in the comment section.
