What’s Happening?

CW Sports has issued a statement regarding another scheduling conflict facing a local affiliate station this upcoming weekend. This same affiliate, Peachtree TV, caused a stir last weekend when they cut to a commercial at the start of the final lap of the Xfinity Series race in Phoenix.

  • For those in the Atlanta Market, tomorrow’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will air on an alternate channel. However, the race will not air on the CW App, which is a common complaint of fans throughout the season.
  • Throughout the season, there have been several complaints of races being cut short, airing partially completed, or not at all due to conflicts with the CW’s local affiliates. This came to a head last weekend with the incident in Atlanta.
  • Atlanta has found a temporary solution by airing the race on its sister network, Peachtree Sports Network. The Detroit affiliate, WKBD, told Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut that it is planning to air conflicting races on the CW app in its market.
  • However, this does not fix all issues. For example, fans in Wisconsin have expressed frustration with missing race coverage. Following issues during the past few weeks, fans have repeatedly asked the question, ‘Why not air the races on the app?’
  • The CW App broadcasts Xfinity Series practice and qualifying but only airs races one day after their completion due to the CW’s commitment to airing racing on its linear channels. Though the CW is working with its affiliates to fix these problems, it looks like this will be a continuing issue for the foreseeable future.
