What’s Happening?
The backend of the scorebook in Michigan was about as stacked as it gets, as Chase hopeful drivers suffered several blows to their season. Here are the bottom five drivers from each NASCAR National Series race this past weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Christian Eckes
Eckes leads off our star-studded list this week, six laps down in 32nd—still, the No. 91 team and their loose wheel are very likely excited that stage points are a thing, given that it’s the nine he tallied thing that made the trip to MIS worth it.
Cole Butcher
For those that may have forgotten, Mini Tyrrell and Brenden Queen aren’t the only ones chasing Truck Series Rookie of the Year Honors. Butcher is by far the odd man out right now, sitting 21st in points, and keeping fans wondering if the ThorSport No. 13 really is cursed.
Spencer Boyd
While this may come as a shock, 34th is the worst finish of the year thus far for Boyd. Call them a field filler, a backmarker, or whatever you want, but the No. 76 is getting it done this year.
Ty Majeski
Folks, this weekend, Tyler Brad Majeski almost gave us the most hauntingly beautiful stat line in NASCAR. We were so close to a first-to-worst finish, but Dawson Sutton had other plans.
Dawson Sutton
Is the Dawson Sutton everyone used to talk about ever going to make an appearance in NASCAR, or is winning just reserved for late models? Then again, he’s only 20, so who knows.
NASCAR Cup Series
Zane Smith
Talk about a wild few weeks. You go from leading laps in back-to-back races to a blown tire at Michigan, looks like that dog wasn’t so lucky after all.
Brad Keselowski
Speaking of blown tires and blown afternoons, that No. 6 car sure is struggling to find the points as of late. Surprisingly, he wasn’t the only driver to be involved in multiple incidents this weekend.
Tyler Reddick
Tyler, I believe those in the Toyota camp are calling what happened to you getting “hocevared.” I don’t know, maybe that’s just John Hunter Nemechek. Anyway, a few more finishes like this and your boss might catch you in the points (big emphasis on the might).
Austin Dillon
While the end to his day at Michigan wasn’t entirely his fault, it’s worth asking when or if we as a fanbase will get our annual or semiannual Austin Dillon Crew Chief swap? It’s been over a year since your last swap AD. Let’s at least consider it.
Connor Zilisch
This was tough. What are the odds of a driver scoring three last-place finishes in a row? Oh, wait, maybe it isn’t that ridiculous. Josh Berry literally did it last fall.
