What’s Happening?
It was almost surreal to watch in the moment but in the closing laps of the 67th running of the Daytona 500, Ryan Preece once again flipped at the Florida track. The wreck that triggered the flip happened after Christopher Bell received a huge shot from behind by Cole Custer, sending the 20 car around. As the 20 turned, it made contact with Preece’s 60 RFK Ford. Then, there was a lull. The front end of Preece’s car was suspended in the air, and just as we thought it was going to touch down again, it turned over. As the car slid on its roof up the banking, it rolled off, coming back down on its tires.
- This is the second time in his career that Ryan Preece flipped at Daytona. The first came in 2023 when he was driving the 41 car for Stewart-Haas Racing. He was involved in a late-race incident that sent him barrel rolling down the backstretch.
- The result of Preece’s incident in 2023 was Daytona paving the infield on the backstretch, much to IMSA’s dismay.
