What’s Happening?
NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney advised drivers in a recent interview that he has one rule this weekend to avoid a move that could turn the fans in Mexico City against the stars of NASCAR.

This weekend, the stars of NASCAR, alongside the NASCAR Xfinity Series, head to Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico. This race marks the first time that the NASCAR Cup Series will race in Mexico and the first international NASCAR Cup Series points race since 1958.
While some drivers may have traveled to Mexico or even raced there at some point, Daniel Suarez, a native of Monterey, Mexico, is one driver in the NASCAR Cup Series field who is familiar with the country.
Suarez, while not the hometown favorite this weekend, is, hands-down, the national favorite. This fact is not something missed by Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney, who told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Thursday morning that he has one rule for this weekend.
“You Couldn’t Get to the Bus Fast Enough”
“Do not, by any circumstances, wreck Daniel Suarez this weekend.”
While these words sound similar to those of ‘Don’t wreck Earnhardt at insert track name,’ the hype of this race, alongside a chance to see a Mexican-born driver win this historic first race at the track, will likely have the crowd engaged with every turn of every lap.
Blaney went on to say that if he did something like that, it could result in him getting “booed out of the stadium.” With the former champion saying, “You couldn’t get to the bus fast enough. Do not wreck the hometown guy, the national driver.”
Blaney even joked that he would be an easy pass for Daniel, clarifying that he’s not going to make a drastic move that could result in the No. 99 being out of the race. He further said that he doesn’t want to risk “being hated by a whole country.”
“Daniel, I’m gonna be an easy pass if you’re around me, if you’re listening. You don’t have to worry about me, dive-bombing you and taking a chance, because I don’t want that heat on me, of being hated by a whole country.” — Ryan Blaney
This will likely be easier said than done this weekend, as the 2.417-mile road course is new to almost every driver in the field, including those who raced at the track with the Xfinity Series during its time at the track from 2005 to 2008. As Blaney warns, should a driver make a move on the unfamiliar track, they may want to look out for Suarez, or face an angry crowd.
